Bible Study Questions for October 9th, 2021

When we think of the pure, loving, unselfish life Mrs. Eddy must have lived in order to become conscious of this truth and give it to us, words are a poor medium through which to express the gratitude which her followers feel for her. It is best expressed by obediently following her, even as she is following Christ. – H.T. Omaha, Neb.

Topic: Unity of Church, Part 2

Moderator: Thomas from NY

Bible Readings: Ephesians 1-6

Review Part 1 questions:

  1. What is meant by “unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace?” (Ephesians 4:3)
  2. What is “our peace?” (Ephesians 2:14; Isaiah 26:12; 2 Peter 1:2)

Part 2 Questions:

  1. What is the “Gift of God?” (Ephesians 2:8; 3:7; John 4:10)
  2. What does it mean to be a servant of God? (Ephesians 3:7; 6:6)

Notes:

Ephesians 3:7 – Minister (1249: diakonos): a servant, minister; A. T. Robertson: “properly means ‘to kick up dust,’ as one running an errand.”

Ephesians 6:6 – Servant (1401: doulos): bondman, servant, slave; Strong: “From deo; a slave (literal or figurative, involuntary or voluntary; frequently, therefore in a qualified sense of subjection or subserviency) – bond (man), servant.”

Servant: A person who voluntarily serves another or acts as his minister; as Joshua was the servant of Moses, and the apostles, the servants of Christ. So Christ himself is called a servant, Isaiah 42:1. Moses is called the servant of the Lord, Duet. 34:5. – From Webster’s 1828 (See also Hebrews 3:5)
