Morning Prayers
Goodness never fails to receive its reward, for goodness makes life a blessing. As an active portion of one stupendous whole, goodness identifies man with universal good. Thus may each member of this church rise above the oft-repeated inquiry, What am I? to the scientific response: I am able to impart truth, health, and happiness, and this is my rock of salvation and my reason for existing.

Discussion point
234 — WATCH lest you believe that you will need protection from the wind of error all your days, lest it blow out your spiritual flame. Will progress bring the demonstration that will enable you to know that the wind only causes your spiritual fire to burn more brightly? Surely this was true in the case of our Leader.
When Gilbert Carpenter was at Mrs. Eddy’s home she taught him this rule of protection. She instructed him to handle every claim by knowing that he was the better and stronger for it, that every effort of error to harm him, only made him better and lifted him higher.
Let us suppose a claim of epidemic was rampant. How would you handle it? Could you not realize that error never created anything and never could. Therefore, the only epidemic must be the presence of God’s encircling love, which mortal sense is distorting, and so we are stronger and better for Love’s presence, and safe from all harm.
Thus we can realize in Christian Science that every time error claims to throw us down, it only serves to put us in contact with our Father-Mother God, from whom we derive a constant renewal of life.
— from 500 Watching Points by Gilbert Carpenter
GOLDEN TEXT: Romans 6 : 4
“As Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
DEFINITION — Animal magnetism is starting a belief and getting others to fear it, until evil is done to those that hold the belief and a law is made, and the error goes on gaining ground until the serpent becomes a dragon.
— from Divinity Course and General Collectanea, the “Blue Book,” by Mary Baker Eddy, page 60
God, good, has all the power on earth or in heaven, and ’He doeth His own will and none can stay His hand.’ Waken from this dream! Look and behold the Truth of what I say. It is all a lie that you have written me. This is the hour of the lie, yea, for the snake and Red Dragon to do their best. But you are privileged to have this battle with the lie early in your labors, and why? Because God knows you are equal to meeting it and putting it down. If you were not, you would not be called to meet this temptation. And blessed is he that can endure temptation, said our Master. He even was tempted and you are enduring temptation, that is all, and are growing under it. You will come out of this ten thousand times as strong in Truth as you went into it.
— from Divinity Course and General Collectanea, the “Blue Book,” by Mary Baker Eddy, page 60
Song — “Blow Winds of God” performed by Peter and Faith

Advice to Students
The kindly shepherd has his own fold, and tends his own flock. Christian students should have their own institutes, and, unmolested, be governed alone by divine Love, in teaching and guiding their students. When Wisdom garrisons these strongholds of Christian Science, peace and joy, the fruits of Spirit, will rest upon us all. We are brethren in the fullest sense of that word, therefore no queries should arise “who shall be greatest.” Let us serve instead of rule, knock instead of push at the door of human hearts, and allow to each and every one the same rights and privileges that we claim for ourselves. If ever I wear out serving students, it shall be in the effort for them to obey the Ten Commandments, and imbibe the spirit of Christ’s beatitudes. (This article was later republished in Miscellaneous Writings: pages 303: 5-19)
Excerpt from Christian Science Journal, August 1891, by Mary Baker Eddy
Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.
— from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, page 261
Beyond and above this mortal and material sense of being exist the immortal and spiritual facts of all things to bless and beautify our lives.

(the “Red Book”), by Mary Baker Eddy, page 132
Be this the stars in our night, that God is Love, that every step of goodness is a departure from material sense and self, and the entrance into man’s spiritual selfhood.
